What is regal jumping spider?

The regal jumping spider, scientific name Phidippus regius, is a species of jumping spider found in the United States, Mexico, and parts of Central America. They are a medium-sized spider, with adults ranging in size from 0.5 to 1 inch in length.

Regal jumping spiders are known for their striking appearance, with iridescent green and black coloring on their bodies and bright red or orange markings on their faces. They have excellent eyesight, with four large front eyes that give them binocular vision and allow them to accurately judge distances when jumping.

These spiders are active hunters and use their jumping ability to quickly pounce on their prey, which mainly consists of small insects like flies, beetles, and other spiders. They are also known to eat nectar and pollen from flowers.

Regal jumping spiders are generally harmless to humans and are not considered medically significant. They are often found in gardens, forests, and other natural habitats, where they play a key role in controlling insect populations.
